While in a previous role, Becky acted as the planning lead to deliver the UK’s first diagnostic testing Mega Lab which formed a key part of the UK Government’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic. The 220,000 sq ft facility became the largest of its kind in the UK, capable of processing thousands of tests a day.
The key aim of the planning strategy was to maximise the speed and certainty of delivery through the use of emergency Permitted Development Rights, while ensuring the development would be delivered to a world class standard which would be capable of securing subsequent retrospective planning permission for the longer term retention of the site.
The project involved collaboratively working with and co-ordinating a large multidisciplinary team including design, transport, landscaping, ecology and M&E.
Rebecca also provided advice on the engagement strategy, liaising with a broad range of stakeholders such as Councillors, MPs, LPA officers, community groups and local residents while adhering to high confidentiality protocols.
